Once an ACCA Manual J load calculation has been completed the designer must select the correct equipment. The Equipment must be selected using ACCA’s Manual S Residential Equipment Selection procedure using the values from the Manual J load calculation. Manual S uses the sensible and latent load values from the Manual J load calculation compared to actual performance data of the possible equipment to be selected. This process results in an accurately selected piece of equipment using a precise, project specific Sensible Heat Ratio(SHR). In contrast, the currently common selection process uses the AHIR data consisting of only total capacity and a one size fits all SHR value of 70%.
For each project our ACCA certified designers use OEM data of the exact equipment being selected to ensure a match with the exact sensible, latent, and total load required by the Manual J calculation as well as any project specific temperature differences.
